Hands up if you put your web site more than five years ago and left it there?
How does it look now? Has passed test of time? If the content and images remain relevant?
Oops, no icon appears on Facebook. No link to your Twitter account. No have video, electronic commerce, secure payment options simple. Now check out your competitors, especially if they have recently come online.
You will find that your opposition has made the most progress in web development and thinking in the past five years. Even a year ago I could never have imagined the impact that Facebook would have on businesses as a means to attract customers.
Back to your site. You may have been told not be too include too many graphics or flash because it was slow to load and annoying too. Not anymore. Faster broadband and fast charge systems equipment these myths have been allocated to the tray. Gen Y and Gen X love the color and motion graphics and video.
I have said, probably not include much text, because people do not read much more online. Wrong again. Apart from the fact that people are reading entire books and journals online, a good Web site writing that has all the information (and keywords) that your customers need means that remain in place.
You probably are not said playing with the site too because any change would be costly, time consuming and you lose your rankings in Google. Wrong again. First, the growth in web design and web development, means that businesses are ready for your business. It's cheaper now to get a good website with all the bells and whistles of what was five years ago. Secondly, search engines will eat the content again, I love and rate it. If there is anything worth coming back why would be a search engine, or a paying customer, the trouble of returning to your site. Get a blog that is updated periodically, it is interesting to come.
Look at their charts – are so fresh and alive as it could be? Do not start again because your logo and graphics are important to your corporate image and brand online. But you can do more contemporary?
And finally, their content. It would be surprising if the content remains as relevant today as it was five years ago. No doubt there have been changes in your business to be communicated? Expansion, new staff, new products, new services … content giving a complete makeover is a quick and easy to load and update your site.
So if your site has reached its peak in traffic, falls in the classification does not become customers as before, or you face a new competition, visit their website giving the update you need.
