Does your web design work come with references?
In his experience as a professional web design, have you ever had a customer ask for references? Were you prepared to give them?
Many times, we are so busy with our projects and focus on the "now" things, we end up forgetting other items that could help attract more customers. One of these elements is very important to develop a list of references from past successful projects.
You may be thinking, "How do I approach my clients to get a reference?" Well, first of all, do not wait until the last minute when you need it get immediately after a project concludes. Creating a reference list is an ongoing process.
When the current project is reaching its final stage is when you should start the conversation with the client about a reference, either in person, by phone, or even an email. Is more preferable to use the phone or in person approach. However, if you perform most of their business through e-mail, then mail mail is certainly satisfactory.
More or less, the main purpose of the conversation is to see if your customer is satisfied or not with the final results. Do they seem excited about the final result? Getting a good feeling of satisfaction to help determine if there would be a satisfactory reference.
A good way to approach the conversation is to ask simply, "How are you?" then proceed to follow up with other issues unrelated as "How's the weather?" Once you've allowed some time to warm up, then gradually be submerged in your customers feelings about their work.
With a little luck, the friendly customer must address this issue without further intervention. In general, we know the really good stuff about how our work has been a success, but it is more important to get an honest opinion. If you share some comments not so happy, thank you and use these observations to improve their work.
Having got your opinion, is to decide whether or not for a referral. You may ask, "What kind of reference do you want?"
There are many solutions for this:
1. If you have a LinkedIn account, and is connected his client, asked to leave a reference there. Because LinkedIn is a social media network for professionals, is a good place to have references to other potential customers to see.
2. Get a witness. These may be placed on your site, blog or other marketing and promotional material. They should be brief and include your name, company and possibly an image or logo.
3. If for any reason, your client can not provide a written referral, ask a be verbal in the future, if necessary.
It is not all ways to get a reference, but these tips can certainly help. Good luck, and do not forget to ask for them!
