Should I quit my job and start freelancing?
I’ve been working as a web designer in Bristol for a year now and used to live within about 30mins of the place. However, around 6 months ago I had to move to Cardiff (my boyfriend is a student there and I can’t move until he finishes in two years) and now the journey takes nearly 3.5 hours a day and costs almost a quarter of my salary. I’m finding it harder and harder each day and its really getting me down.
The problem is there are hardly any web design jobs in Cardiff- should I quit my job and get a part time admin type job and start freelancing? Or should I just struggle on and get more experience?
The industry I work in is so fussy about experience and I’m scared that if I quit my job I won’t be able to get another job in the future…
It’s a decision that I’m struggling with so much, any advice?

I work in the design industry at the same level of you and faced the same problem. Freelancing after a year isn’t impossible but its very hard, you haven’t got the contacts or the experience for people to take a chance on you.
I managed to get about 4 months out of a year freelance working in small places.
If i were you id keep working gaining more experience and a better portfolio of work, while testing the water, getting little bits of freelance, seeing if its viable.
It’l be hard for a couple of months but worth it… You don’t want to do office work you’ll lose momentum.
