Memory stick compatibilty?
I have a Gateway computer with only 64MB of RAM, but I want to add more. I have two PC2700 RAM memory sticks, but I’m not sure if they are compatible with PC100 (which is what I already have in there).
Please PLEASE tell me if they are compatible.
This is really starting to make me mad, because all I want to do is update my computer from Windows 2000 to Windows Vista. Grrrr…
Your PC100 ram will be SDRAM and your PC2700 will be DDR. These will not mix and match. Actually, your motherboard probably doesn’t even support DDR. You wouldn’t even be able to plug it in as the slots are different to prevent you from even trying. With that said, if you want to go to Vista memory isn’t your only problem. Vista is ungodly in it’s system requirements if you want it to run smoothly, and any computer with 64 MB of ram just isn’t going to cut the mustard.Unless you’ve done major upgrades, which I’m guessing you haven’t based on your RAM, your vid card isn’t going to support the shy new Aero Glass that most people are talking about, much of your old hardware would be incompatable and not work anyway, etc. Heck there are brand new computers coming out today that Vista won’t run extremely well on. If you want Vista, I’d look at spending some extra bucks on a new computer. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but facts are facts.
