computer memory upgrade I haquestion?
I have a 5 year old Dell Desktop computer, and I am already at the maximum amont of memory – 1 GB – and since I started using photoshop regularly I’ve been hitting the limit with memory on a regular basis. I can’t put any more memory in this machine without buying another one at least that’s what I’m fnding right now. The only thing I know I can do is to buy memory management software, but I dont’ know what packages to buy – any ideas? thanks
one thing that might help is to have photoshop use a different drive for scratch disk you can change it under the edit menu
also you can occasionally purge your undo states and history that frees up ram. also when applying filters and other ram hungry proceses you can preform them on a selected area thather thatn the whole image. keep in mind that teh resolution of the file your working in dosent need to be as high as most people put it. 400 dpi is fine for damn near anything. honestly by looking i can hardly tell 300 from 400 for my job we print digital banners and i seldome print them over 150 dpi simply because they are ment to be viewed from so far away. also rgb files are smaller than cmyk at the same resolution. a gig of ram is not to bad if your carfull i used to run photo shop on a 300 mhz celeron and less than a gig of ram worked wel enough to pay my rent with design jobs.
