Why pc disks and memories manufactures cheat us in the size of their medias in MB or GB?
When you want to buy a flash disk or DVD disk, the size of that media is not correct!
if you buy DVD disk the size of it 4.7GB but when try to burn data in it, you can burn 4.3GB!
when you buy 160 GB hard drive,you plug it to the PC, the real size is only 149 GB.
Also, a 128 MB flash disk, the real size of it is 122 MB.
Always when I ask the seller of that things about the size, they told me that the left missing size is used for the system for configuration! and for arranging the files in the disk.
But finally I know that is a big lie.
When you study the units of computer memory sizes is in bytes.
when you want to convert bytes to KB you must divide by 1024 not 1000, because it is based in 2 digit(binary numbers).
when you want to convert KB to MB you must divide by 1024. and so on with GB.
So, for that the manudactures use 1000 instead of 1024!
now we can see why 160 GB disk is 149 GB, they made a 160000000000 bytes disk and divide it by (1000*1000*1000) = 160GB, is wrong
a formatted storage media, needs a space for a system and it is hidden and cannot be moved, and the 160Gb, 120gb are in rounded form, and for uniformity,, it is ridiculuous to say, can i buy a 154,998MB of HD.
It is like driving a car, wow I am running 120kph , but if you measure in accurate speedometer, it may register 118.2344 kph or 120.3345kph…
