What is the definition of software?
The term "software" is not a newly conceived a word. In its 1935 essay, "On Computable Numbers, with an application to the Entscheidungs problem, Alan Turing first proposed and laid the foundations for software art. In 1958, the first use of the term software was used by John W. Tukey in an article in American Mathematical Monthly.
Today, the 'Software' means programs written rules or codes and documentation on the operation of a computer language. "Software" The term is broader and can include different types of devices such as operating systems of modern consumer devices such as automobiles, televisions, toasters, etc.
Computer software is the job description of what a computer can perform. Can not be touched physically. For example, most computers come with the software already installed. The software is also available on CD in a series of instructions that tell the computer how to perform a particular job. For example, Microsoft Word is an example of software. In addition, the web technologies like HTML, PHP, ASP.NET, and XML are examples of software.
The software can be divided into two main categories: operating system software and application software.
Operating System (0 / S): This system consists of the basic functions that computers perform. An example would be displayed on a screen as moving a mouse cursor was user moves the mouse. Examples of the following operating systems: Windows Vista, Windows XP, Mac, Linux and Unix.

System software is software that can interact directly with hardware. Examples include motherboard, CPU, keyboard, mouse, printer – etc. The system software is responsible for controlling, integrating and managing the individual hardware components of a computer system.
Computer software consists of machine language which is essentially binary groups giving instructions that are specific processor individual processor. It is usually written in programming languages high level and then interpreted into machine language code. The software can also be written in assembly language is a mnemonic representation of a machine language using a natural language alphabet.
