How much does a Web Designer do?

My boyfriend is in his senior year in college and is looking at different jobs as web designer, software development, computer programmer or a technical database. To what extent any of these jobs pay? If you or someone you know the work that is what they like? When in the U.S. not paid better or worse? We searched different places and we are getting many different numbers all areas so any information would be great. We live near Kansas City if that is relevant.

If your boyfriend is in grade computer science, go for software design / dev, system analyst or development of databases, where starting pay will probably be in the range of 60K right college for $ 150K + in 5-7 years. If, however, earn a degree in something unrelated to the field of technology, first you need the formation of some kind if not disciplined and resourceful enough to learn everything from books. Of all the occupations mentioned above, the web designer, probably the lowest paid, at least at first. Contrary to what a person said below about game design or programming, with a year or two in the formation of a local school community, children can make 50k starting, and up to 100K or more after a few years – at least in the Seattle, Washington area who do. The states pay more technology are California, Washington state and Massechusetts, followed by other states on both coasts and others. Payment is a great field, but there is no such thing as a child from 9 to 5 job in technology. The long hours that requires passion for the job. And, oh yes … lazy need not apply.
