How much computer memory you need?
Copyright (c) 2008 Titus Hoskins
You've probably heard the expression. " Can not be too rich or too thin "Well, now you can also add:" You can not have too much memory. "
In fact, that last phrase is little misleading because when buying RAM (Random Access Memory) the computer that can be too much if your computer does not have the hardware to manage or use all of the RAM. But mostly, as any computer user will quickly realize, when it comes to computers can not have too much memory.
Therefore, when buying a laptop or computer memory must be one of the main considerations. Go to the maximum amount you can afford luxury simply because the more RAM you have, the faster your computer will run.
Also, many software applications today place increasing demands on your system memory. You have peripherals such as webcams, digital cameras, DVD players, USB hard drives … launch pages very complicated web and PC games based on video … all needing more and more RAM. Who knows what the immediate future will bring and what requirements Additional memory will be on your system.
The thorny issue of shared memory
Keep in mind that unless you have a high-end cards video graphics with its own memory, the memory of your system more than likely be shared between the processor (CPU) and graphics chip (video memory). The which means that when the computer uses its own memory for your operating system, software applications, peripherals … its report is quickly consumed if this memory is shared to run the video / graphics – and the system will report significantly less memory than I had originally thought.
That's why many players are going to buy expensive computer graphics cards with a lot of dedicated video RAM or built-in video memory. This way you can disable memory sharing and release the system memory of its maximum power. While you can change or set the shared memory through the BIOS settings, many experts suggest that you leave this option alone, since it is already optimized for the best video / display performance. In other words, you could screw screen resolution unless you know exactly what you're doing.
So buying extra RAM or high-end Graphics Cards will always be a safer option, if not the cheapest route to take. Often, these players will even connect two or more GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) in an SLI configuration to have enough memory and power graphics processing for all your demanding video graphics and games. SLI (Scalable Link Interface), PCI Express (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express), FSB (Front Side Bus) are forms of manipulation and transfer of RAM and fast data on the components that are required within your team. That's why speed RAM is also important for smoother running applications and games.
How much memory should you get?
When buying any system there is usually a limit to the amount of memory the device can contain or less. These days the amount of RAM is increasing, many systems can now take from one to eight gigabytes of RAM. You should ask or check the specifications of the computer or laptop you're buying and display memory installed for you as well which also tells you the maximum memory that can be installed.
laptops and computers today require a great amount of RAM, Windows Vista is only recommended in a gig of RAM, but have many computer users who are 2 or 3 Gigs of RAM help make Vista run better, if that's possible. Although Windows XP can run on 128 MB of RAM, use 256 MB or more for best results. For Mac OS X system requires a minimum of 128 MB, but for optimal performance try 512 MB. Linux works very well in a system with only 4 MB of RAM.
Of course, the devil is in the details, if only To use the computer for simple calculation, when browsing the web, read and send emails … then your memory requirements will be minimal, why money after bad RAM you will not be used. So if your memory requirements are very low, you can save some money by going with the minimum amount of memory RAM, just make sure it is enough to work on your computer (operating system, CPU and video) without problems. Keep in mind, in most cases just install more memory in the future if necessary.
