Apple memory – How to Find the Best Computer Memory for Your Computer
Many people buy computers, use them for a couple years, and then replace it with a newer model. In cases such as this, the original computer is usually in good shape, but it becomes too slow for the user. However, many computer users don’t realize that they could save hundreds of dollars by getting a memory upgrades instead of buying a new computer or laptop.
Sometimes it is difficult to find the correct type of computer memory. The best way to find the correct type is to ask an expert or customer service representative. Memory is sold according to the type of computer it is intended for (laptop or desktop), the RAM type, and the speed. Even though most of these items will be clearly marked at an electronics store or online store, it can be confusing if you have never shopped for computer memory before. A computer can only be upgraded with the type of RAM that is currently installed in it. The new memory must be the same speed as – or faster than – what is currently installed. You can determine the type of RAM in your computer by consulting the instruction manual.
Upgrading computer will greatly improve your computer’s ability to run several applications simultaneously. Most modern PC users have about 1 to 2 gigabytes of memory installed in their computers, although it is possible to upgrade to up to 4 gigabytes of memory. There really is no reason to upgrade memory if you are only running word processing applications and the internet and your computer is working at a decent speed. However, if you are the type to run several applications at one time, especially games, then it is a good idea to have a substantial amount of memory, at least 2 for a modern operating system.
When buying any upgrade for your computer, cost is always a consideration. For example, computer and laptop memory prices tend to decrease with time. For newer types of RAM, you can generally expect to pay about $100 for 4 GB of RAM. This price is pretty reasonable considering that it will significantly increase the speed of your computer while operating multiple applications. However, if you are buying memory for a computer that is a few years old, you may find yourself paying less for a different type of memory.
Although some electronics stores will install PC or Apple memory for you, you can do it yourself at home very easily. First, make sure the computer is completely shut down and unplug all the cables from the machine. Open the computer and remove the existing memory from its socket, then just fit the new memory in the same way. Laptop memory can be a little more difficult, but the hardest part is finding the memory in the back of the laptop. It varies for every machine and it is best to consult your handbook when replacing laptop memory.
