HOW FILES GET STORED IN COMPUTER MEMORY?
In general, to create an ON state (eg., to glow a small light) we need electricity supply. In analog signal, this ON state is a clock pulse which means, in digital format its ONE (1).
While storing the files we convert them into binary format, which is then converted into digital format, (0′s and 1′s)to store the files. In this manner we store the files into the computer memory.(primary,secondary,etc.)
But how it is possible for the computer to retain the files in the memory (as 1′s and 0′s) even in the shutdown condition?
Even flipflops require power supply to retain the cell content isn’t? To retain a ’1′ the computer requires power supply isnt?

Data in volatile memory (RAM) will be transferred to hard disk/flash disk/other non-volatile media which won’t lost data when electric current is no longer supplied (as what the first answerer said, they do not get stored permanently there):
Hard disks use magnetic patterns of 1s and 0s to retain the data. Magnetic patterns are electronically induced when data are written / modified.
Flash disks use plenty of P-N junctions (a P-N junction is a sort of a micro-sized material which conductivity can be changed by flowing electric current in different directions) to retain the 1s (the junction becomes a conductor) and 0s (the junction becomes an insulator).
CDs/DVDs use surface patterns (such that the reflected lasers will form patterns as well) to represent 1s and 0s.
