Conditions: * linear-growth occurs when a quality grows by the same absolute amount each unit of time. * Exponential growth occurs when a quanity grows in the same relative amount that is, by the same percentage in each unit time. State wheather growth (or decline) is linear or exponential, and answer the associated question? Question # 1: The price of computer memory is declining at a rate of 12% per year. If a memory chip will cost $ 50 today, what is the cost in three years? Note that I have the answer just need help to solve the problem. Thanks for your help! Answer: Exponenential, $ 34.07
If the price is decreasing by 12% per year, then the price each year is 88% (100% – 12%) than it was the previous year. 88% = 0.88 Therefore, the price of memory chip in 3 years time will be $ 50 x (0.88) ^ 3 = $ 50 x 0.6815 = $ 34.07 price of 2,007 = $ 50 = $ 2.008 44 2009 Price $ 38.72 Price = 2010 price = $ 34.07 Each price is 88% of the previous.
