
How does a computer's hard disk Works
A computer hard disk or fixed disk or hard drive is where all your data is stored when a computer is off. Since the data is stored magnetically, you do not need power to retain or remember all these data.
Construction physics.
The hard drive is usually a metal disk coated on both sides with a special magnetic material, usually a compound iron oxide, which has small magnetic particles that can be oriented to represent the bits – which are the basic unit of computer memory and are equivalent to a switch, whether inside or outside.
This disc is turned to a very high speed of 8000 revolutions per minute or more, and then the two reading / Write heads that are used to effectively recover data from this disk, skim only a few hundredths of a millimeter of the surface of the spinning disc. How data is stored on the hard disk.
Data from a hard disk is organized in concentric tracks, almost microscopic tracking wide, and each is divided into sectors, like slices of pizza, and hard drives having more than one disk or plate, cylinders are also defined. A cylinder is that all tracks on multiple sources, which are the same circumference.
When a disc is still raw, you need to be formatted, which is the process whereby the magnetic disk is divided on these issues, sectors and cylinders for which data can be written in the right place. A boot record is also written to the disk during formatting, a track that contains information about how the disk is formatted and constructed.
In a rotation speed of 8000 RPM, the outer edge of the blade is moving under the heads at a speed of more 100km / h, or more than 60 miles per hour. If the heads are touching the surface at this speed, some serious damage occurring. This sometimes happens when a hard drive goes a strong jolt, and this is known as the head fall.
