What brand is reliable and affordable computers?
Looking to buy either laptop or desktop computer that is ready to use out of the box.
not looking to build one. sorry, i am not tech savvy, so please don’t get to technical.
will be used mainly for:
kids homework
organizing records, bills, paper work, etc.
youtube, facebook, myspace, webcam
movies, photos/pictures, dvds, music, cds? (do people still use these?)
some gaming (ie. sims), but not often
mostly for internet browsing and media.
saw some computers offered at best buy under their blue label, but a bit out of my budget.
want to spend approximately $600-800.
the less expensive the better, but willing to spend a bit more for quality and reliability
would like something with lots of speed and memory
please give brand name, model number. or overall of what i should be looking for.

A good, reliable brand that is well-made and available within your price range is Toshiba and HP. They are capable of everything you mentioned. With purchasing any computer, you will have to choose between hard drive capacities, processors, memory size, and so on, but they are not as complicated as they seem. Keep in mind though that the higher the performance, the more money you will spend. That doesn’t mean you will be stuck with a bad piece of technology with a computer within your price range. If you want help with the technicality of it all, I suggest you talk an employee at an electronics store. They will help pin point you to a product that will suit your needs without the back-breaking effort of trying to find it all out for yourself.
