RAM is recognized by PC Wizard, but not in Windows or BIOS.?

My computer has always been running on 768mb of PC3200 memory. One stick of generic 256, and one stick of Corsair 512. I just purchased 1 gig of cheap memory at CompUSA (To replace the 256mb stick). Installed it, and it wasn’t recognized in the POST nor in Window’s task manager, however, PC Wizard’s hardware analyzer seemed to see it fine, even though it wasn’t utilizied.

It sounds like your motherboard doesn’t support that RAM stick. Are you sure it supports 1GB sticks? (You can check by going to a site like www.memoryx.net and looking it up.)

PC Wizard is reading the configuration stored on the memory stick. That will work even if the motherboard’s BIOS doesn’t recognize or support it. But if the motherboard doesn’t have the wires rigged to actually *use* it, it will not show as available RAM.
